Wider screen lets you see more of what’s around. Compare these actual size views of a 3-inch (diagonal) screen

and a 4.3-inch diagonal widescreen

The nvi 260W comes preloaded with maps for U.S., Hawaii, and Puerto Rico, and features an ultra-slim design. See More of What’s Around
The 4.3-inch backlit widescreen touchscreen gives you 70% more actual screen area than a 3.5-inch screen. Primarily this translates into a better view of the area through which you are driving. This is especially useful in showing you what parks, restaurants, ATM, gas stations, etc. are nearby, or in letting you know whether a detour is a good idea. Also, the device itself is larger, meaning controls on the screen are more widely spaced and somewhat easier to push.

Smart, Powerful Design
nvi is built with a high-sensitivity GPS receiver for extreme accuracy, as well as an SD card slot for storing your media and additional navigation tools, and a USB interface for loading data. All this is wrapped up in a package that measures 4.8 x 2.9 x 0.8 inches (W x H x D) and weighs just 6.6 ounces. The nvi display is touchscreen-enabled, making it a cinch to control the device with your fingertips. A rechargeable lithium-ion battery provides up to five hours of battery life depending on use.

Garmin Lock
Garmin’s patent pending theft prevention system that disables the unit from performing any functions until the user types in a specific 4-digit PIN or takes the unit to a predetermined secure location

First Rate Map Data
nvi comes ready to go right out of the box with preloaded City Navigator NT street maps for the continental United States, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico, including a hefty database of more than 6 milliong points of interest (POIs), such as hotels, restaurants, fuel, ATMs and more, that are searchable by name or category. Simply touch the color screen to enter a destination, and nvi takes you there with 2D or 3D maps and turn-by-turn voice directions. Garmin gets its map data from NAVTEQ, a world leader in premium-quality mapping. In addition, the nvi accepts custom (POIs), such as school zones and safety cameras and lets you set proximity alerts to warn you of upcoming POIs

Important note about map updates: Due to our high volume of sales, almost every Garmin portable GPS navigator sold by Amazon.com will come with the most recent map version. If you ever do need a map update, you can purchase one from Amazon.com at our Garmin Store.

Easy To Use Interface

The Garmin Nuvi 200 is even better with the 4.3 widescreen. This is the third portable Garmin I’ve owned, and all have been great, with the newest one even better, with out of the box usability, quick 1 minute setup, and good customization options. (Route choice/languages/hwy vs. tollways, etc) Battery life is very good at about 3.5 hours with a freshly charged one, and unlimited with 12v power of course. This model works great with a friction mount (a $35 option) Forget the suction cups…they fade and warp after about 6 months and auto thieves are always looking for those tell-tale suction cup marks to break in. The Garmins come with a nice security feature that looks out the functions at power off. You input a code on power on and use it normally then. But if stolen, the thief has a useless gadget! You don’t have to use the security feature but I highly recommend it. About the only flaw with the Garmin is the long satellite lock on time. Sometimes it gets the satellites in 15-30 seconds, but it can just as easily take 2-3 minutes sometimes! It does have a very strong lock on once it gets the satellites though…I’ve never lost a signal on the road with it.

I love this Garmin. The wider screen is much better than the narrower models. Very user friendly and reliable. Very accurate and up-to-date.

We go to alot of garage and estate sales. We named our GPS Lola. Lola has only let ou asray twice by a few blocks. The Detour feature is great! Would buy the upgrades.

I have three GPS (eTrex, GPSMap 60CSX and this one). Among these three, the fastest one is this nuvi 200w. I know that GPSmap has different purpose than Nuvi, but the acquisition time of Nuvi 200W is fantastic and screen drawing is very fast. And the screen is absolutely beautiful thing. Very bright and colorful. And more: this one supports various languages. I’m using korean language menu, voice and portuguese keyboard layout. Perfect…

GPS Security Functionality

One of the most common uses of Global Positioning System (GPS) technology, by businesses and consumers alike, is to ensure security from theft, as well as human safety.

Using a GPS tracking system is an excellent way for an individual or small business to keep track of important equipment including vehicles, machinery, and portable electronic devices, such as laptops and cell phones.

A prime example of the usefulness of GPS technology for security purposes is its abilities in the fight against vehicle theft. If you car or truck were stolen, and it had a GPS vehicle tracking system installed, then you would be able to pinpoint the exact location of the vehicle, and see its exact coordinates on a map. You could then turn this information over to the police, allowing them to retrieve the stolen vehicle, and apprehend those responsible for the theft.

GPS technology can also be instrumental in ensuring basic human safety. This is especially true with children, as every parent?s worst fear is their child getting lost or kidnapped. Fortunately, with the help of a child GPS tracking device, you can always know the exact location of your child. In the event of a kidnapping, you would be able to determine the exact location of the kidnapper and notify police and other emergency authorities of this information.

All in all, there is little doubt that GPS can be an excellent way to fight crime, and ensure the safety of your belongings and of your family.
